Kundrathur murugan temple

The main God of this temple is Lord Murugan, Son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Here he is called Sri Subramaniyaswamy.

History of the Temple

After winning the demons in Thiruporur, he was about to go to Thiruthani. On his way, he came to Kundrathur and built a Shiva Linga. He performed Shiva pooja with a deep meditation. The Shiva linga is in a separate shrine called the Kandaleeswarar temple.

This temple was built by Kulothanga Chozhan II as a tributary temple to Lord Muruga in the name of Sri Subramaniyaswamy temple

About the Temple

Lord Subramaniyaswamy can be seen only with one of his goddesses even though he is with both the Goddess Valli and Deivayanai. This is the only Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu in which Lord Muruga faces in the North direction.

This temple has been mentioned in the Thirupugazh hymns of Hindu Saiva Saint Arunagirinathar.

During Sekkizhar Guru Pooja, God Subramaniyawamy is taken down to the hill for darshan to Sekkizhar in the foothill temple

There are eighty-four steps to reach this foothill temple
